Exalted and a Vargottama Jupiter

Mar 30, 2023

I am writing this article when 5 plantes align in the sky and are visible from earth, including Jupiter.

Vargottama planet is in the same house in the rasi chart and navamsa. This gives the planet strength.

Exaltation: Exaltation is the best thing that can happen to a planet in terms of strength.

In Vedic astrology, when a planet is considered exalted, it means that the planet is in its strongest and most favorable position within a specific zodiac sign. The exaltation of a planet enhances its positive qualities and gives it a heightened influence in a person’s horoscope.

As per Sh. K.N Rao:

A planet will give strong and beneficial results in its dasha and antardasha in majority of cases if:

It is the Lagna Lord

It is the 10th Lord/ Lord of House of Karmas and Profession

It is Exalted

Let us see this with an example of a native who ran the dasha of an exalted and vargottama Jupiter, the guru.

A male born in 1990 in Delhi, India with dasha balance of Jupiter 15 y 1m.

Jupiter’s deepest exaltation is at 5 degrees in Cancer.

This Jupiter is at 2 degrees and 7 minutes, very close and heading to deepest exaltation.

This Jupiter is in its strongest kendra, i.e. the 10th House also forming a beautiful Hamsa Yoga.

This Jupiter repeats its position in the 10th from Moon, again in 10th forming an excellent Gajakesari Yoga.

It is exalted in Navamsa, making it vargottama.

This Jupiter is powerful to do good and bestow the native its significations of the houses it owns. However, this Jupiter is a malefic for Libra lagna as it owns 3rd and the 6th houses.

Career Analysis:

The native enjoys a good 10th house and 10th lord in lagna is involved in Rajayoga by placement in the 1st house and aspect by 7th lord Mars who is in its mooltrikona sign Aries forming a Ruchaka Mahapurush Yoga as well and Chandramangal yoga.

The tenth house has Jupiter, Sun and Ketu. jupiter is exalted, Sun as 11th lord is having directional strength.

He has a good promise of career in his chart. Now comes the dynamic analysis- Dasha, i.e. When?

In the year 2020, in the Saturn Rahu dasha this native asked me how his career will be as he was not happy with the salary and his growth in his career. He is an HR in Canada. I told him you will grow in your career and earn a six figure salary in the coming three years and buy a house.

He laughed it off, he was only earning half of what I had predicted at the time and a six figure salary was a distant dream.

Now, Let’s analyze the Saturn Jupiter Dasha for him:

This horoscope has strong kendras as many planets occupy it.

Saturn: Yogakaraka for Libra lagna in the third house of self efforts aspected by Venus, forming a strong Rajayoga. This Saturn is vargottama too and Venus is exalted in Navamsha making them both have a strong dignity and strength.

Jupiter

It is exalted and vargottama. Moreover, it is own house in Dashamsha connected to the 10th house of D10. Remember, it is in the 10th house in D-1/ rasi chart.

In rasi chart, antardasha lord being in 6/8 axis with the Mahadasha Lord Saturn and a malefic lord for Libra were my concerns.

6th House in modern age is the house of service and being a Upachaya house lord the native will get results only after a lot of hard work.

This Jupiter is sitting with the eleventh lord, Sun and being aspected by seventh and second lord Mars, activating Dhanayoga.

By the time of writing this article in March 2023, he has only finished half of his Jupiter Antardasha and is now earning way more than a six figure salary. He has to work more than 10 hours on weekdays as he now is a Manager, HR.

This Jupiter is also aspecting the second house .

Do you think he can buy a house?

The answer is in the rasi chart itself, and the D4 chart or chaturthamsa confirms it.

Jupiter aspects the 4th House in both cases.

This is the power of an exalted and a vargottama Jupiter.

How was this conceived by the rishis thousands of years ago?

Edit: The native bought a house in end of June 2023, 4 months after writing this article in the dasha of Sat Jup Ven as predicted. Jupiter is transiting in Aries and Saturn is transiting in Aquarius.

CaseStudy: Alpayu

ALPAYU

In this Case Study I will discuss a horoscope in which a young man died at the age of 34 with liver disease.

Birth Chart

Male born in New Delhi in 1983

 Alpayu

This is a classic example of a Balarishta Chart. Moon in 6th House with 12th lord is afflicted by malefics Sat&Mars. Moreover, Moon is also the Lagna Lord making this a severe arishta combination.

Now, let us check this moon in Navamsha and Drekkana and Dwadashamsha

AlpayuD9D3alpD12alp

In all 3 charts Moon which is also the lagna lord is severely afflicted showing no respite with regards to the health of the native.

In such cases with severe Balarishta combinations the survival of the child upto 12 years is difficult, especially since he will run the dasha of Moon from 1989 to 1999. But there is also Balarishta cancellation combinations because of which he survived during young age.

Jupiter Aspect on Lagna and ShuklaPaksha Night Birth are two of the major reasons.

Exalted Saturn as 8th Lord with 11th lord in a kendra add some years to the native’s age but only to some extent.

This Horoscope came to me in 2015 with health complications and severe career issues.

He was running Sadesati as well with Poor Ashtakvarga scores in 1st and last phase of 2.5 years.

He was warned with severe health conditions in future if he doesn’t improve his lifestyle as he had taken to drinking heavily with a faulty liver. Longevity wasn’t calculated or warned.

He passed away in Jan2017 in the dasha of RaVen. Notice Venus is the chiddra graha as it is the 8th lord of D3 placed in 8th house in D3. It is also placed with exalted 7th lord in D1 making Saturn potent maraca in this case.

Let’s use the PAM method to check his longevity.

Note: PAM method is not a full proof method, you must use other ayu calculation methods along with and the Horoscope only will show you the best picture.

For Healh/Longevity Study

Lagna/Lagna Lord

Moon

3H/3 Lord

8th House/8th Lord

10th House/10th Lord

And Saturn.

Study these combinations along with dasha and transits.

Here as we can see Lagna Lord and Moon are under severe arishta.

Only the condition of 8th lord and Saturn is good enhancing his age to 34 years.

Now let us see PAM method,

To understand this method in detail, refer to my video with link below:

LagnaLord: Dual

8th Lord: Moveable

Result: Alp

Lagna: Moveable

Moon: Dual

Result: Alp

Therefore, PAM method signals to Alp Ayu 0-36 years but check main Horoscope to make sure for harans and Bharans and come to a final conclusion.

How to read a Vedic Horoscope? Part 1 First House

In this article I am going to discuss from where to start a horoscope and how to read it and eventually predict.

Whenever you see a Horoscope always follow these steps instead of seeing all things at once and getting confused.

Remember the Desh, Kala, Patra before beginning.

Keep the following parameters in mind before judging any house:

  • House/Planets placed in the House.
  • Planets aspecting the house.
  • Lord of the House.
  • Planets Conjunct/aspecting the House Lord.
  • Significator/Karaka of the house.

  1. LAGNA/ASCENDANT/FIRST HOUSE:

Always see the sign rising in lagna first. The personality, physique, nature of a person will resemble that sign.

It is also the First House: First House represents Self, physical body, health, longevity, head, hair, brain.

taurus-ascendant

For e.g. If Taurus is rising in lagna then immediately think of qualities of a Taurus and those characteristics will be present in the person.

For learning the characteristics of any sign remember its image. Like Taurus is a Bull.

taurus_bronze

The person will be strongly built, will be full of energy, they are patient and steady, bulls are difficult to control once you provoke them but are mostly peaceful.

It is ruled by Venus so they love beauty, luxury and have refined taste.

Taurus is second sign of natural zodiac therefore they are materialistic and like to accumulate.

It is an earthy sign therefore making them practical.

It is a fixed sign making them rigid, and stubborn like a bull. They dislike change.

Like this you combine Sign and House characteristics for each house.

  1. Planet placed in the First House

After studying the sign check the planets placed in the lagna/first house. The person will majorly take on the characteristics of the planet placed.

For e.g. In Taurus lagna, if Moon is placed in the ascendant i.e.  first house. The person will have a cool temperament, will be good looking, will be creative, love music and art.

Combine characteristics of Moon and First House

Now Moon is in its exaltation sign, so all the good characteristics of Moon will be present in full effect.

Moon is the Third Lord for Taurus ascendant so he will be hardworking, will rise by self-efforts, courageous etc.

  1. Now check what planets aspect Lagna/First House

See what planets aspect lagna, are they malefic or benefic and what lordships they have. It will influence the first house of a person to that effect.

  1. Lagna Lord/ First House Lord

Only after checking all above parameters come to lagna lord i.e. Venus in this case.

Check where venus is placed, how is its strength in rasi chart and navamsa chart and concur accordingly. Then check the aspects on Venus and planets conjunct with venus.

For e.g. Venus is in Pisces that is its exaltation sign. Venus will be in 11th house of gains. The person will like to accumulate and will be born in a rich family and will have all the luxuries in life.

  1. Check the above planets strength in Navamsa Chart.
  2. Significactor/Karaka of first house: Sun

Always see the condition/strength of the significator a particular house, in this case SUN to come to a conclusion about health.

Similarly, check all other houses and have a basic idea in the back of your mind about each house and planet.

Now this was only the Static Promise, for timing and dynamic analysis see the dasha.

See what dasha the person is running and those results will be experienced according to planet’s strength and placement.

Last check the Transit. See which houses the slow moving planets aspect to come to a conclusion.

Let’s see an example to understand this:

sj

This is a female chart. Born in 1966.

Aries rising: Energetic, active, full of energy.

No planet is placed in lagna/ first house.

Saturn aspects lagna: Saturn is a natural malefic and in this case functional malefic as well. Therefore, it afflicts lagna/ first house. The person will have health issues especially in the dasha of Saturn.

Lagna Lord: Mars in twelfth House in a friendly sign but a trik/bad house. Again, indicator of weak health.

Mars is conjunct with Sun and Mer(R).

Sun is the fifth lord. Rajayoga in twelfth House i.e. 5th and Lagna Lord combination. But it is an adverse house.

Mercury is the 3rd and 6th lord (functional malefic) debilited in twelfth house. Now, lagna lord is conjunct with 6th lord again indicating health troubles related to nerves, skin since mercury represents those significations.

Mars is also 8th lord. 6th 8th lords conjunction will give chronic disease.

sjd9

Now in Navamsha Mars moves to scorpio which is its own sign but eighth house of horoscope showing some long lasting disease to body.

Mercury goes to virgo in navamsha which is its exaltation sign, showing Mercury is strong and has inherent strength of giving diseases.

She is always ill and frequently gets hospitalized. It has been a tendency throughout her life since her lagna lord is in twelfth and conjunct with 6th lord.

Other things to consider:

Budh Aditya Yoga

Gajakesari Yoga

Vipareeta Rajyoga

Amala Yoga

Similarly, check all other houses and see then see the dasha and transit and predict.

SadeSati: An Easy Way to Judge Using Ashtakvarga

In this article I am going to discuss an easy way to Judge SadeSati for a person. This method was taught to us by our teachers at BVB and is mentioned in the book Transit by Col A.K Gour.

Basic Ashtakvarga Knowledge is essential to understand this article.

No wonder I am writing this article on a Saturday. This method involves the use of Ashtakavarga. We need both Sarvastakvarga(SAV) and Bhinnashtakavarga(BAV) charts.

What is SadeSati?

Sadesati is a period of 7.5 years of Saturn Transit over 12th,1st and 2nd Houses from one’s natal Moon.

Saturn takes two and a half years to transit one sign. So when Saturn comes to 12th House from one’s Natal Moon, Sadesati starts. Saturn spends 2.5 years in each house which brings us to a total of 7.5 years.

Now since Saturn is a slow moving planet and is a karaka for miseries and delays its interaction with ones natal moon which represents mind, brings about mental agony and increased responsibilities and in some cases death in the family. Sometimes this leads to depression and frustration during this period. Now this mental agony is always due to something not happening right for you in some physical domain in your chart. The source for that reason lies in the dasha and transit influence of Saturn.

Not all SadeSatis are bad, for this you have to check Ascendant rising and Saturn and Moon’s placement and strength in a chart and also the Dasha running. But since in this article I am gong to explain to check it in a short way I will straight away move to Ashtakvarga.

Check The Ashtakvarga points in 12th,1st,2nd Houses from moon in SAV and BAV of Moon and Saturn.

For eg: If someone’s Moon is in Scorpio, then check SAV points in Libra Scorpio and Sagittarius. If the SAV points are less then 23(28 is neutral) then the Saturn transit over that rashi is going to be bad.

Now check Moon’s BAV for that rashi. If there are less then 3 points(4 is neutral) especially if there are 0,1,2 points the period is going to be troublesome.

Similiarly check Saturns BAV as well.

Let us understand this with an example:

ss1

Presently Saturn is transiting in Scorpio. It is in second house from this person’s natal Moon. Therefore he started Sadesati when Saturn was in Virgo. His Sadesati will end when Saturn will Transit to Sagittarius in Jan2017.

Now lets understand how his Sadesati will be from Ashtakvarga method.

Tula/Libra is rising with Moon(kemdruma) in it.

Dasha running durin 7.5 years of SadeSati: SatMer, SatKe, SatVen, SatSun,SatMoon.

When Saturn was in Virgo and Scorpio, these period were terrible for him. He was depressed mentally and low on confidence.

Now let us check SAV Chart:

ss2

Points in 12th House from Natal Moon: 17

Points in 1st House from Natal Moon: 31

Points in 2nd House from Natal Moon: 22
BAV Chart of Moon and Saturn:

Points in 12th House from Natal Moon: 3

Points in 1st House from Natal Moon: 5

Points in 2nd House from Natal Moon: 1

ss4

Points in 12th House from Natal Moon: 1

Points in 1st House from Natal Moon: 3

Points in 2nd House from Natal Moon: 2

Clearly All 3 SAV and BAV charts show weak points in 12th and 2nd houses from Moon and this was the toughest period for the native.

Similarly we can check all sadesati periods from this technique and give a snapshot prediction. But start with Promise, Dasha and then only come to TRANSIT.

Case Study 01: Vehicular Accident/D-16

Vehicular Accident

s

This individual met with a bike accident in the dasha of Jup/Mar/Rahu.

Promise: Connection of 4 and 6 Houses/lords is one of the criteria for vehicular accidents. In this case 6th lord Sat is in the fourth house.

So the promise of accident is there.

Venus the karaka is comfortably sitting in its mooltrikona sign but is in paapkartari also aspected by jup the eighth lord.

Check D-16 as 4th house in D-1 can mean many other things aswell, so we confirm in D16 as it is the chart for conveyances.

d

Here 4th lord of D1 and 6th lord of D1 are conjuct in the 8th house which is the 6th house of D1 confirming the chances of accident.

*Studying D1 lords in D16 shows us the picture more clearly in this case.

Now the question comes When?

Well, it can be in the antardashas of Saturn(6th Lord) or Mars(4th Lord). Both are in the 8th house in D16.

Dasha at the time of accident: Jupiter/Mars/Rahu. This individual met with a bike accident and damaged his left knee and feet for life and underwent 5 major surgeries.

Jupiter: Eighth lord of D1 also a maraka as it is sitting in the seventh house.

Mars: Planets do give results as per their natural karakatwas, in this case Antardasha of Mars led to an accident. Mars is the lord of fourth house of vehicles where 6th lord is placed.

Rahu’s Pd gave the final blow as it is in the 8th house in D1 and aspected by Mars/Mer.

JupMars dasha is a dasha of 6/8 axis in D16 with the 6th lord Mars aspecting Jupiter with its eighth aspect.

This individual has to be careful in Sat/Mars Dasha too as there is a chance of another accident.

On the day of transit 6 planets were in the second house from lagna of D1 i.e in Virgo aspecting the 22nd dreshkona.

New things to learn in this example:

Technically the dasha of Jup/Mars should have been excellent for him as it was his yogakaraka dasha but it wasn’t the case.

D16 gave us a clearer picture about the accident.

How to read a Navamsa chart?

“If Birth Chart is a tree, Navamsa chart is the fruit in that tree.”

K.N.Rao

Navamsa is the ninth division of a horoscope and is one of the most important divisional chart to be studied along with the  D-1/ main chart. In the Vimshopak Bala given by Parashara  it is given 3 points after shastiamsha and the birth chart. Shastiamsha/D60 is given the highest weight-age of 4 points higher than the birth chart which has 3.5 points.

Clearly D60 is the most important chart but since it changes every two minutes the accuracy of its lagna is doubtful as in most of the charts, the timing is off by a few minutes.

The Birth Chart changes every two hours and so many children are born in the same state during those two hours, each having same lagna. Their fates will change according to the paatra but not all will have similar destiny. That is where navamsa and other divisional charts come into picture.

Navamsa Chart has to be read in following ways:

  1. To check the strength of a planet: The most important use of the navamsa chart is to check if the planet is really strong. If a planet is exalted in the birth chart and debilitated in the navamsa then the planet’s inherent strength is not there. The planet will only give good results in the first half of its dasha and will give poor results in his next half and vice versa. This is the reason why we should also check the planet’s dignity and strength in navamsa before reading a chart.
  2. Read it independently: Some astrologers read it as a mirror chart to the main chart and confirm the events. If D1 and D9 show the same event for eg: In a students chart, in D1 5th lord has connection with 12th house/lord and the dasha is also running then the education can be outside the home city(one of many things). If the same combination of the D9 lords repeats then it is a certainty.
  3.  Marriage Chart: This chart is read independently to know all the attributes of spouse and to time the marriage of an individual as well.
  4. RasiTulya Navamsa: It is the super imposition of navamsa chart over rasi chart, i.e. keep the rasi chart lagna as it is and place the planets in the horoscope as per their positions in the rasi chart. It tells us how the lords have shifted in the navamsa and can be used to predict as well.

Therefore it is important to read the Navamsa Chart/D9 always along with D1.
